Hey Y’all,
I have never seen an HD VC, is it really HD like say HDTV cable channels? If you have, would you recommend it over say, basic 384k connections? Is it worth the money?

The only reason I ask is because we just tested "HD" codian and RMX bridges, and to tell ya the truth, not impressed. If I had to choose one I would go with codian.

Hi Pauly,
I guess from this thread (http://www.vtctalk.com/showthread.php?p=54542#post54542) it seems you tested the MCU4200 rather than the MCU4500 which is the HD bridge.
If this is the case I would highly recommend you tested the MCU4500 as this was designed from the ground up with HD in mind.
Many Thanks

Thanks Kevin, I have passed this information to upper management. Can't wait to see what real HD looks like!

I have installed and used the Lifesize and Polycom HD video conferencing codecs. I am pleased with the clarity and connection speed. I design video conferencing rooms within corporations and universities. The cost difference of a HD to a standard def system is about 2-3K difference. So I suggest buying the HD system..Would you buy an Television for your house that wasn't HD ready?

the difference between 384k and a hd call is significant. i was skeptical as well until i got ours set up. i made a call at 384 to demonstrate the previous system, then followed up with a 768k call followed by a HD call. there was a definite, noticeable difference.
btw, im running tandberg

I've also never seen HD. This will proably be a dumb question but that never stopped me from asking before. If you are in a multipoint conference and only some of the endpoints have HD, what kind of results will you have?

Depends on the MCU. The TANDBERG Codian 4500 can mix and match any of the available video resolutions found in the VTC market today. This is unique in comparison to the competition.

Hi Sean,
So you're saying that with the Codian 4500 bridge, you can have SD and HD sites at the same time? Will the HD sites still see each other in HD? If so, that's way cool.
I think for Polycom this is not possible, all sites have to be HD or it doesn't work. (Lowest common denominator) Anybody from Polycom on these boards that can verify that?
Thanks!

Yes they will. But even better than that the HD sites will see the SD sites in better resolution than than SD due to the really cool ClearVision feature that greatly enhances SD endpoints picture quality in the call.
