TB & PC have a strong international presence and Aethra has been primarily marketed in Europe (hence their lower cost) and are less known to folks getting started in the VTC. Decent platforms and word's getting out about them though.

What kind of equipment and codec are you currently using?

Part of the reason you don't see much on them is they currently have about 3% of the market. Less units in the field mean less people with questions/comments.

They tend to be active in Europe and South America / Latin America. We do not see them at all in the US.

We are using Vega X3, X5 and the maia videophone...The result is pretty good..I have seen Polycom vsx 7400 and vsx 8000 running on IP with 256 Kbps before and the result was not good. That's why we bought aethra's

We Are using Tandberg MXP-990, 6000, MPS 200 with TMS.

We are now looking for more equipment that will specifically use for Education sector on IP.

Like
Tandberg Edge 95, Codian 45xx, MSE 8000, Content Server etc
Polycom HDX series, MGC 100, RSS etc.
Some Aethra models too

I need your suggestion specially for those who are using both platforms to specify the main points for selection the MCU, CODECS, Streaming servers that will make me easier to select the equipment among theses vendors.

send me your comments to <noman@iamgood.in> or post here..

Awaiting .

If you want them to be controlled by TMS, keep in mind that we do not control/manage the HDX series (yet), but it is coming. We also do not control/manage any of the Aethra products.

Hi Sean,
Are you starting a rumor saying that Tandberg is going to take over Polycom ? Are you going to buy them ? ;-)
cheers

TMS now supports the Polycom HDX endpoints.

Hi all, we have one Aethra endpoint at Southern Cross University and we are continually having issues with H239 delivered from our Tandberg endpoints. Has any one come across this?

I have a workaround for this now, strangely I can force H239 by sending an analogue video signal (S Video or composite) first and then switch back to xga and h239 then works. hope this helps someone.

Can you post the software rev and type of Aethra, and will try it here so see if we get the same problem?

Depending on the Aethra codec, they originally used Tandbergs DUOVideo. It could be that the Tandberg is trying to connect using DUOVideo and not H.239

Should work either way.
