I am currently using Polycom MGC 100. However, I've been contacted by others to look into using Tandberg 800s instead. Can anyone tell me some pros and cons of the Tandberg equipment. I have have only worked with Polycom bridging units but have always used TB codecs and desktop units. Please help!

Hi.

Interesting, that you use MGC in Tandberg enviroment. But, I suppose you have a reason.

However, probably it is wiser to look into Tandberg Codian MCU 42xx or 45xx series instead of MPS series. I believe Tan-Codian should give you the best performance (definetly true for IP).
But, in case you need to bridge calls between IP and ISDN... you'll need external ISDN gateway... Other users can comment about the integrity of such solution. I believe it should give you good (best) results on ISDN too.

In case you need to connect external networks (V.35,...)... then maybe Tan-Codian can't fit. But other users will comment on this.

Good luck,
Cedi

I agree with Cedi and now Tandberg's concentration is in Codian MUC Platform not in MPS.

Senthil, this is of course your opinion. TANDBERG continues to develop both the MPS and the Codian MCUs so I would say we are concentrating on both. Both have their merits depending on the markets you are supplying product to.

I agree with Sean. I work with the military and they aren't going straight IP anytime soon and the MPS supports serial and PRI. I don't think Codian does. Am I correct, Sean?

Correct, the Codian is an IP only box today and requires gateways for H.320 support (ISDN, V.35 etc). The MPS continues to be popular within the government deployments where the external encryptors are being used. Also, the MPS has gone through many of the certs required by the classfied networks.
