View Full Version : Using TMS for software upgrades--issues

Hi,

I currently manage 119 endpoints via TMS, and I recently tried to upgrade the software files on the majority of the endpoints.

Unfortunately, the upgrades didn't take. I received multiple messages indicating the following: "Failure Reason: Cannot upgrade system, have retried event 48 times with no success." For each of the events, it says "Unable to communicate with system".

I do not understand how this can be, as none of the systems were offline at the time of the upgrade....I could communicate with the systems through TMS for other functions, so I am at a loss....any help would be appreciated!

Also, there must be an easier way to do software upgrades than the way I currently know to do them:

I forward a spreadsheet to our partner vendor, who in turn forwards it to Tandberg and gets the release keys. What I receive back is a long list where I have to go through the HW Ser. numbers one by one to match them up with the correct endpoints, so the right endpoint gets the right release key. Then, I need to enter the release keys once I have matched them up with the unit's ser. #. It took me over 3 hours to do this....I'm thinking there must be a better way....

...that in the logs under "System Upgrade Activity Status", I keep getting messages stating that:

1
The events are executing
2
that the upgrades have begun
3
unable to communicate with system
4
the event gest postponed to xxx time
5
the whole thing starts over again from #1.

This happened 48 times for each endpoint before TMS quit and noted the upgrades as "failed"...

It runs the gamut...T-150's to 95 MXP's. I've never had a problem before, so I'm wondering what could be the issue here.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you test one system? I seen this happen if i try to do alot of systems at one time. I usally schedule 5 of them every 15 minutes. See if that works.

Had a meeting with some folks from Tandberg last week...we figured it out. Turns out, when scheduling upgrades via TMS, the upgrades go out via FTP from the TMS server. Looks like there is an issue with the server not being able to FTP....having our server people take a look at it.
