We have a MGC50 and a pathnavigator setup on our LAN and it works just fine. We use the short dial, the ISDN routing, and all that jazz. Now we are bringing in a 3rd party vendor to manage and host our international calls and major video events. What is happening is that the vendor has installed dedicated lines from their office in Denver to ours in MN andCA. When they try to intiate a call to any of our systems, the connection ball goes solid green, but never finishes connecting. I have seen an error 211 on the screen when if finally hangs up.

Now, if we either remove the endpoint from the gatekeeper, or change it to direct mode, then it works fine. Unfortuently our vendor doesn't support meeting rooms and all that stuff so we need to keep the gatekeeper and it's options intact. They also have stated that they will now only support driect mode, and not routed.

What would cause it not to finish connecting while in routed mode?

You don't happen to have a Juniper firewall in the mix somewhere?

If so:

The H323 ALG in them have problem with routed mode from a gatekeeper... especially over VPN tunnels and such! It can be turned off, contact your local juniper expert.

I don't know the firewall brand, but I'm thinking it was Cisco or nextel? But per your comments below, the bridge from the vendor is hooked to use using an E-VPN setup of some sort.

The case with Juniper FW is a problem I have had myself, perhaps other FW/VPN-solutions might have simmilar problems.

And to clarify, the juniper was allowing ANY<-->ANY , just working as a VPN tunnel... but the crappy ALG in Juniper killed my calls anyway, it just couldn't leave the H.323 packets alone :^)

I know Cisco PIX has problems too with some parts of modern versions of the H.323 stack.
