I am reading up on Tandberg and OCS being compatible now (or soon). And I have two questions:

1. The blurb refers to MCU functionality via the Codian series. What about the MPS 800 and 200? Will OCS work through them?

2. If you want to reach a Polycom system do you have to go through the MCU or is Polycom also compatible.

Anyone get this going yet? Any pitfalls to watch out for?

This has been introduced in J4.2 on the MPS 800 and 200. The software is out now.

Not sure I understand what you are asking here. Can you give further details?

Hi Sean

I've been in a Tandberg house for so long now, I'm not up to speed with Polycom technology. I guess basically I'm asking if Polycom is compatible with OCS in the same way Tandberg is. Our other assets have legacy Polycom gear, but we do have an MPS800 and MPS200 that we can use if Polycom can't do it.

So it's less of a Tandberg question and more of a Polycom question.

Much of what Polycom has done to date has been focused on the older LCS2005 model. So many of the new features of OCS are not going to work. We have been working with the new model which has additional benefits. Additionally we have licensed Microsoft's RTV and RTA video and audio protocols that we will be incorporating into our products for an even better experience. Also, we are working closely with Microsoft to develop a HD webcam for OCS. Lots of things going on right now with Microsoft :)

Sean-

Does a 6000MXP endpoint, with all options installed, and running current software, act like a single user to OCS, or can it host multi-point OCS SIP calls if the "Enterprise" package is not enabled with Microsoft?

We are currently running LCS05, and looking to update to OCS07 this summer, just trying to figure out what to expect, feature wise.

The interop today is using H.263 video, so it should be able to bridge multiple users together.

IS this communication to LCS/OCS server directly from endpoint or does TMS have to be part of network?

There are 2 different topics here: interoperability and integration.

Interoperability: the MXP endpoints can talk video and audio directly to the OCS or LCS client.

Integration (requires TMS): allows you to use LCS/OCS as a presence engine, associate yourself with a TMS managed endpoint (Polycom, TANDBERG, Sony etc), and click on a buddy to launch a call between the managed endpoints.

This is my issue, many people belive that as TB say they can communicate directly with OCS/LCS they are UNAWARE that TMS is actually a fundenmental part to actually make the TB endpoint work within this situation. The same for PLCM, Aethra, Sony & Lifesize etc etc.
ALL manufacturers can communicate video/audio protocol (that is not the hard part as this is basic comms) providing the "glue" is in place (management system). This is often the main factor that is overlooked when positioning VC within these situations.
DO not forget that if you have the "glue" ALL systems can "integrate" to OCS/LCS..............................
