Can anyone point me in the direction of a manual for the Oki BS1200 Gatekeeper? I've Googled this for hours without any success.

I need to find a compatible VoIP / FoIP gatway that will work with this Gatekeeper without any problems. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I have a OKI BS 1200 FXS gateway. It is H.323 version 2.0 compatible. It work well with NGK-200 which is also in H.323 version 2.0. The gateway's operation is complicated.

And I googled a ftp in south america for BS1200 gateway 3 years ago, but never found a file about gatekeeper.

Thanks for the feedback! The company I work for currently runs a reasonably sized VoIP / FoIP network using Oki VoIP TA units at hundreds of locations. These TA’s are all registered with a pair of Oki BS1200 Gatekeepers.

Since Oki no longer supply or support the Oki VoIP TA’s or the BS1200, we need to source a replacement Voip TA in order to enable expansion of the network.

As we could no longer get support from Oki, my company hired a freelance VoIP consultant and asked him to source a replacement unit that would work with the existing BS1200 Gatekeepers.

After spending several weeks looking into and testing just one possible replacement unit, we were told by the consultant that there was virtually no chance of finding a compatible unit because the BS1200 was not standards compliant. I’m concerned that this consultant might not have actually known what he was talking about and may simply have lacked the technical skills required to implement a solution.

The trouble is, without documentation for the BS1200, I’m not sure where to start in sourcing a replacement. I’ve managed to dig out a reasonable amount of marketing information about the BS 1200, although it’s a bit more like archaeology than web surfing. The marketing material makes a big deal about just how thoroughly standards compliant the BS 1200 actually is. Here’s an extract:

London, UK, June 2, 1999 -- Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. today announced that its family of Internet telephony gateways and gatekeepers will support the iNOW! Profile. iNOW!, which stands for "interoperability NOW!" is an industry initiative that enables interoperability between different vendors' IP telephony equipment platforms. iNOW! was developed by Lucent, VocalTec and ITXC. The iNOW! Profile is a blueprint for building IP telephony products that are compliant with the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU's) H.323 standard as well as existing and proposed elements of H.225.0 Annex G standard.

Can you suggest a current generation VoIP TA that’s likely to be compatible with an Oki BS1200? Any input most welcome!

Assume that the OKI gatekeepers are in H.323 version 2.0,and your H.323 networks have no trouble in Firewall NAT, then the answer depneds on to what extent your company would invest on the network or Gateways/Terminals.

1. If you have a CISCO proxy architecture network, you can try to register your BS1200 gatekeeper to a new CISCO gatekeeper, and all others H.323 gateways/terminals form CISCO to the CISCO gatekeeper.

2. If your network is hybrid network, you can consider either H.323 version 4.0 or SIP gateways/terminals and firewall solution.

For me I prefer the gateways supporting both H.323 4.0 and SIP from Quintum,or others VOIP survivors. The main trouble to expand the H.323 version 2.0 network is the signaling bridging between H.323 version 2.0 and H.323 version 4.0 or SIP. There is no perfect solution so far,as it needs H.323 proxy, Softswitch or MCU. But you can also inquiry TDMoip solution by which you can save your investment as much as possible.
