View Full Version : Disabling DuoVideo

Is it possible to fully disable DuoVideo on Tandberg MXPs but still retain the sending of PC video at full resolution?

A lot of our users are getting very confused by the fact that they can see presentations and video in a PIP window at the same time. Also, some of the third-party sites we connect to either use Tandberg endpoints with older versions of the software (we're using F6.3 or F7.0) or third-party units, eg Polycom, which don't seem to support the 'standard' fully meaning that they don't see the PC stream at all.

Ideally we want to send either full screen video or just the PC images, but at full resolution. I don't think that removing the option key for NPP would work, as I gather this will reduce the PC video to 4CIF?

Ideally we'd like the switch between to be automatic and transparent to the users, so that they're not required to make choices from a menu.

We've experimented with various options on the endpoints we have control over, eg disabling H.239 from the menus, but this seems to make no difference whatsoever!

Have we missed something blindingly obvious, or is this just not possible?

Any thoughts?

I would play with CAMERA presets.... and maybe a TANDBERG TRACKER.

IF you use a PRESET to switch between cameras, the DUO-Video/H.239 will not be enabled, however TANDBERGs always sends the best possible resolution if possible.

(Or if you can teach your users to manually select the correct "TAB" in the PRESENTATION meny you reach if you press and hold the PRESENTATION-button, then you can have them select MAIN VIDEO source and not start DUO-Video... but this is just futile IMHO :) )

I seem to remember having this debate with a Tandberg Rep at a conference a year ago. At that time, he told me it wasn't really possible, and then asked why would I want to do that. I suppose it is essentially limiting the codec, after having paid for the NPP option!!

We have the same issue, many end users who need very basic control to switch from Main Cam to PC video modes. I never found a simple solution, and have taken to teaching those who want to use this feature to "hold the blue presentation button for 3 seconds, press up, left, down, right and OK". It usually works best if you can show them what to do, but after a few tries, they will eventually remember it.

I have no great solutions, but maybe someone out there knows something we don't????

I guess you could always spend a few extra bucks and get some TRC4 remotes (which should come standard with all codecs in my opinion.)

Very well said, you described our situation too.

We sell video services and have many regular customers as well as new customers. Even the regulars have a hard time navigating camera inputs and get lost with DUOVideo. We have a few customers who use the DUOVideo in limited point to point applications. Having an easy toggle would remove some usability headaches.
