Hi all ,
I am into system rentals and want to buy a new VC system. I am still confused which one to buy , currently we have few polycom viewstations and now as that is discontinued we are taking demos for tandberg 550 , polycom 7000 S , Aetra X3 and Sony PCS-1P VCS. I wanted to know the user feedback for Sony PCS-1P VCS. Please let me know about this systems qualities , issues and about it's relaibility. thanks in advance guys ! :)

I think the PCS-1P is a great system, especially for rental, cos it has a smaller foot print.
Its also easier to integrate with third party devices.

Why you are not going for Tandberg?
Why you are not going for Tandberg?
For rental short term use or even purchase PCS1 makes perfect sense, small footprint, great options for usage and display. Not limitations for system for functionality unlike Tandberg/Polycom when everything is service costed additional price

Uh, are you sure about that? I seem to remember there needing to be several options purchased to get what we consider to be an all up system, ie multipoint, high bandwidth, PC Graphics inputs and the like. It seems like there was even an additional piece of hardware required to get the PC part working.
We bought 4 PCS systems for evaluation, they are decent systems, but in the end it was a comparison of the various the engineering and technical support that tipped the balance in Tandberg's favor ofr us.
If you are looking for a smaller footprint system then Tandberg has the Edge series that use seperate camersa, but from the ease of use aspect I'd be looking at the 800 series set top boxes in the Tandberg line.

Hi ,
Thanks for all your help guys. I finally bought a SONY and have used it for 6-7 months till date. My experience wijth the system is ok which i would like to share with you. As told beofore we had used only polycom earlier. Following are my observations
1) Sleek looking and easy to carry for rental assignments
2) Camera / Picture quality is too good. Brightness is adjustable
3) There are no 2 RCA video outputs.
4) The remote is not great , if one is not exactly in front of the system and is slightly far away then it does not work unlike polycom
5) Sony does not show network statistics which is very usefull if one needs to check erros in connection. Great tool in Polycom.
6) The built in mic is not great hence i had to buy very expensive one external mic which is omni directional. This does not have a mute button which is very useful .
7) Menu is not as colouful and friendly as polycom
8) You can't put the mic on mute if you are not in a call. With polycom you can do it and is very uselful when the calls are unattended.
9) Remote sensor should be on the codec and not on the camera which will make it easy to use cand carry if one wishes to use it only with external camera instead of the system camera.

I will agree with all of the comments of amolathalye made above and add a few.
-I have logged over 250 connection problems with my Sony PCS-1 in the last 6 months which is more than all of my Tandbergs combined.
-The manual is very little help for any problem that you may encounter
-The GUI web interface looks like it was written 1994
-Will not accept XLR mic input only a 10k 3.5mm mic input.
-I have never been able to encrypt a call between this system and a Tandberg.
-Jitter is a normal issue with this system
-Receive packet loss seems to be a fact of life
