Hi Guys

I am new in here and hope you can help me.

I am looking for a cheap and simple VTC setup that can plug into a flat screen TV and sit either on top or under the screen. I have been installing View stations in work and was looking for something similar obviously with less high end performance.

The problem I have is it’s for family use and most of the units are aimed at business users with a shockingly high price to match. We like using MSN but its pretty flaky at times and between setting all the audio levels and web cam settings it takes an age for the less PC aware to set up and we can’t even get it to work all of the time.

In a perfect world a viewstation style setup with wireless access for the home router and simple direct peer to peer connection (via DynDns) would be fine.

Does anyone know if there is anything like this on the market?

Many Thanks

I don't particularly care for it in a business environment, but for home use it's fine. Even that route isn't really cheap, but it's a lot closer to reasonable than a hardware codec.

Another option is to check Craigs list and E-bay, but always remember the old 'Caveat Emptor' thing when buying second hand. I have also read discussion here about some freeware H.323 clients that run on a PC, hopefully someone will post about them as well.

You might consider (though, it's not H.323 standard) Skype Video. With a Super camera (Logitech 9000 pro) and sufficent bandwidth (384kb) you can do SD at 30fps.. And it looks very good. That's about as cheep as I can come up with...

And if you wanted to link it to a standards system, you could connect your laptop and pass it as H.239 (with additional delays).

Good Luck,

So are you looking for only 2 endpoints ? What's your budget ?

Please PM me, I can provide you with more details about the solution (low-cost, easy to use). I don't think we can advertise on the forum.

Thanks

I'm probably late to the party but try the DLink Eye2Eye systems at about $225 each. They have a wireless version.

Service providers providing translation services for deaf users via video conferencing provided the DLink Eye2Eye to their home users because of the ease of setup and use. The DLink would sit on top of the TV and be connected to their internet service.....real easy to use....no PC involved at all.....
