Simple question, I hope?
I am 1 of 4 video conferencing site in which the other 3 need to dial a 9 to dial out on their video conferencing equipment. My equipment is identical, however I don't need to dial out. Why would the other sites need to dial a 9 to get out for a VTC, is this how their circuits where ordered, or does it have to do with a PBX? All of our equipment is of the following: 1 Tandberg Gatekeeper, 2 Tandberg Gateways, 10-Plus Tandberg MXP 880's. The Gateways are connected to 4 Adtran CSU's to 4 PRI's.
I had never been in a position to where a nine was used to dial out, prior to an ISDN VTC call.
Thanks.....:chinese:

Some video units will allow you to pre-program a dialing prefix. Check yours to make sure the unit is not adding a '9' for you. If your ISDN service is behind a PBX or in a Centrex there generally is a prefix required to get out but depends on how it is configured.
If your units are IP and you're going thru the gateway, it could be the gateway is requiring the '9' for ISDN routing.

Thanks for the reply Joe.
I'll need to go back to research, my equipment utilizes H.323 to H320 with endpoints and 3 Gateways. The prefix 8 or 9 is used depicting telephone or Video, however my other sites seem to be dialing an extra 9 prior to the prefix to make either of these calls.
I find that an odd way to set up PRI/DID circuits for video conferencing equipment. Than again I will be forever a student in this field....
I can't seem to think that being behind a PBX is that dependable, using video conferencing equipment...

All of my BRIs come out of the local PBX. I dial one of several prefixes to select what external telephone path I use, and it works well. I can choose between the local telco provider, US Government DSN or FTS service, and even select the precedence of a DSN call by using the correct dialing prefix.
