Hey all,
We are facing a kind of a unique issue here. We had a MGC 50 installed with version 9.0.1.8 installed (PSOS). Which we were able to manage easily. The MCU was installed in the US and were being monitored in India without any issues. But now, we have installed another MGC 50 with the same version (9.0.1.8 but its on XPEK). We are able to connect to the MCU through the MGC Manager but the meeting rooms/ the cards does not show up at all.
The meeting rooms just show as empty even if there are 800 odd meeting rooms.
We are able to access the MGC from a machine with MGC manager 8 in the US.
Hence, we are facing serious issues with administration, monitoring etc .
Diagnostics performed
Changed IP to the old one
No issues with the network path, old MGC and the current MGC are taking the same path
Both the MGCs are on the same switch at the same location.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Could that be due to the fact that both are running on differnt OS?
PSOS and XPEK ?

Are you using MGC MGR v7.5.1.4 to access the v9.0 MGC? Have you tried using the matching MGR version? Could be v7.5.1.4 is not compatible with v9.0 XPEK. What did your Polycom tech support say?

Im actually having 2 MCUs with 7.5.1 and 9.0.1.8. hence, using the 7.5.1 Manager to administer the version 9 as well.
polycom is still not able to conclude anything as they are able to access it locally in the US.

Could be the API's for v9 XPEK are not known to MGR v7.5.1.4 but are to v8.0. I would upgrade your v7.5.1.4 MGR's to at least v8.

Tried that as well.. Theres no difference.. Installed 8.0.2 and tried accessing.. still unable to view the meeting rooms created on the MCU :(
I seriously think its an issue with the XPEK OS.. than to do with the API..

Have you tried loading MGC Manager 9? Don't know if this will help, since I'm not running any 7.5 systems, but I am running MGC 9.0.1.8 on XPEK using Manager 9.0.2.11. When we upgraded I was told that there was a bug in Manager 9.0.1.8.
Good luck,
Wes

we were using 7.5 with 9.0 (PSOS) without any issue until we installed the new MCU..

Well we are not using 9.0.1.8 at all.. Its only 7.5.1.4 and 8.0 now..

This is a network problem, as evidenced by the ability to successfully manage/view the MGC from the PC in the US. There is almost certainly a VPN or firewall of some sort between the India management location and the hardware in the USA. If it's a VPN, the problem is likely the MTU size (the MTU size that the control module puts on the wire can be changed if the MGC is running XPEK - see http://knowledgebase.polycom.com/kb/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=11890&sliceId=SAL_PUBLIC_1_2&dialogID=8192429&stateId=1%200%208188746 ). If it's a firewall, FTP is probably being blocked.
Mis-matching Manager versions (using v7 Manager to work with a v9 chassis, etc) is not recommended as the APIs do change as features/fixes come out. Most folks with chassis' on different versions actually leave multiple versions of Manager installed on their PC, and run them simultaneously (v7 Manager for the v7 chassis, v9 Manager for the v9 chassis).

That was what I was trying to say in my previous post, but I was in a hurry and didn't communicate effectively, for which I apologize.

Checked with N/W team, They say, they are able to telnet with the different ports to the MGC IP.
Secondly, We dont have the VPN connectivity, firewall team says they havent blocked any ports,
5001, 1205, 80 etc.
anyway, wanted to know the following
1) Ports required for MGC Access.
2) MTU size for PSOS (cos its working with PSOS MCU) and I can set the same size if possible

Thank you Wise82Guy..
After a serious discussion with the network team, they say, they have a PIX firewall with version 7.2. and the below polycom document says, this is a known issue with a few customers with the specific PIX Firewall version. now we will try reducing the MTU size and check if that works.. :)

Hi,
IT WORKED...THANKS TO ALL OF YOU... ITS SIMPLY A GREAT FORUM TO RESOLVE ISSUES.
Anyway on the resolution part, the network team has created a rule to ignore the packets from the MCU with higher MTU so it doesnt get blocked at the PIX Level.

Just a thought. Are you connected by Port 80 or 5001 to control your MCU.
