Has anyone else had problems with the VSX7000 system connecting to other equipment. Doesn't like my SONY 1500 at all. (ISDN) I know it is a bit old but even so it should work as standards are supposed to be back wards compatible. Symptoms are connects but then drops picture appears briefly in one direction.

Ours has been acting goofy ever since we took it out of the box about a month ago. On IP I have not found any issues, but we have had a problem with it spitting out bad dialing strings on ISDN. I will add more as we work on getting the issues fixed.

I had problems to connect to a Sony PCS-1 using the latest software version on a ViewStation 512. It seems like its something that Polycom must correct. I figur that it is the same problem on VSX-7000. No problem when I downgraded to 7.24 on my ViewStation.

I can understand if some features doesn't work between different manufactures. But the least you should expect is to make a call and get audio and video from the other end.

the 7000 must do some different handshaking... I had a sony 1500, a vs 323, and a 7000 connected to the same spigot - it would not connect properly to two out of three endpoints - the one it connected to was a ipower 9800 with current software, hmmmm - let me rephrase, it would connect, but no video on our end

me thinks there is some more work to do at polycom

I've had lot of problems connecting a vsx 7000 with legacy Picturetel equipment like Concorde and Swiftste. The upgrade to software version 5.1.1.b solved the problem with the Swiftsite, but not with the Concorde.

Guys,
One thing worth trying is to disable AES (in the security menu). I’ve seen some problems when trying to connect with older endpoints and MCUs. BTW it also seems like some of the older gatekeepers have issues with AES as well.
Hope this helps

There are still a couple of issues from what I've seen with the connectivity of the VSX 7000.

H.264 implemented on the VSX 7000 doesn't seem to be standard , while the H.264 from the VS EX/FX will connect with the TANDBERG ,SONY and Aethra endpoints the version on the VSX 7000 will connect only with other VSX units or with the iPower.

On the AES , and GKs subject , if the GK is handling all the signalling it has to be H.235 compatible , otherwise it will not allow Encryption, same thing happens with Audio and Video Protocols , if the GK is not aware of them it will exclude them from the Handshaking.

We had exactly the same problem when we bought our 7000 and it also wouldn't connect to the Sony PCS-1600 either.
In our HQ we run all Sony equipment (1500, 1600, 6000) until the purchase of the 7000 and all our regional offices currently have a mixture of 1500s and 1600s - all over ISDN through private switches.
Originally I got in touch with Polycom who told me that it was a known issue and gave me a link to their extranet to download the beta version of 5.1.2 (the next software release for the 7000).
Loaded this on and still no joy.
What we did find, after a lot of testing, is that if the 1500 or 1600 does not have the ISDN numbers properly configured then you will get this breakdown. (i.e. if the ISDN line going to A1/A2 is entered in the Sony configuration as B1/B2 then it won't work). Changed the ISDN config on the Sony's to exactly as it should be and it worked fine.

Hope this helps

I've had some strange problems with the only VSX 7000 we've got (which, as I stand right now, may be the last...):

When the system was purchased, it was bought with the intent to run CLASS/UNCLASS using A/B switches and a KIV-7HS. I was told this was not a problem. We purchased the system, a serial module, and cables to connect to an Adtran ISU 512. Well, the cables, instead of the standard V.35/RS-366 Ycables that come with the Viewstation V.35, we got 2 RS-530/RS-366 Y- cables. The only problem that posed, is I could only connect one port, which mean no 2x56 or 2x64 clear channel calls.

Once installed, I set up the Adtran, and tried to place a call. I had some DTR issues, that Polycom had to send me a beta patch on (5.1.1c), and the system worked fine....Now to the present:

The end-user wants the capability to run 2x64/2x56, which meant I had to order another cable (V.35 end instead of RS-530), to use for the other port. I got the cable, installed it, and now the system will not work at all. It drops all calls after 2-3 minutes, even when connected to an Accord MGC-100 with ver. 6 software. Any ideas here?

More problem...

Ipower 600 / ViewStation FX (ver. 6) will not connect to Sony PCS-1 (ver. 2.21) by ISDN. It seems like the Polycom Systems can't read the numbers sent back from the Sony System. Only get 64kb

No problem to call from Sony to Polycom...

I have had that problem with the only PCS-1 we have here, but it is with connecting to anything other than a PCS-1. I was told Sony was working on a patch to fix that, but don't know if it was ever released....

Hi Maury, you may want to try release 7.5.1 release. Interop with old versions of Concordes has been enhanced in that release. Check the interop list coming in the release notes (6.1.2 to 6.50.02)
You may to try on one of your VSX before rolling out if satisfied.

xsiquin,
Nice to see a Polycom rep on the boards :)
