Just throwing a question out to the community about IPv6. How important is IPv6 in buying decisions now and in the near future. Long term it will be very important but are VTC engineers and managers really concerned about future proofing their video networks now. Is there a huge gap between the government and the commercial market on this one?

To my mind, I'd say it's rather important. Why? Because I beleive, that in closest 2-3 years it's much more possible we'll have to start implementing IPv6 everywhere rather than changing the devices because HD720p/1080p will become outdated (which is much less possible, but who knows). Of course, I beleive Cisco or Juniper or whoever else will be able to provide efficient gatewaying between IPv4 and IPv6 for H.323/SIP but it'll take some time to make it work for sure. So I prefer to have IPv6 in devices now, rather than sacrifice my sleeping time looking for a solution when I'll really need it :) .

If you are a US Government site then IPv6 compliance has been mandated for all new equipment purchases. There probably is a gap there between the government and the commercial marley, but most of the commercial sites that I work with are specifying IPv6 compatibility for new procurement as well, so perhaps it's not as big as you might think.
