Hello,
Is anybody of same opinion that the otherwise nice product VSX7000 could be a better product if there were an optional power to complement the one built in inside the loudspeaker.
For permanent use it is ok but if you use it as portable unit it is unessasary to carry around the bulky subwoofer...

The sub is a vital component of the VSX7000 as it aids with the Siren14 wideband audio. And as the ISDN Quad brick (and power) is housed in the sub it also saves running muliple cables to the set top box.
Depending on the number of people in a conference, maybe the VSX3000 in a portable carry case might be an alternative?

Agreed in the fact that the Power source beeing in the SubWoofer removes portability from the codec, it also may cause a good inconvenience while setting a room , however it is adequate for the placement Polycom has chosen for its CODEC , for example it's perfect for a middle size room with a single plasma , I am guessing polycom will broaden even more their product line to give both more portability and more power through the VSX family , but anyway the VSX 7000 came on a real Gap of the market and all and all has proven to be a real success in thwe market

I agree, the 7000 is a nice unit, but it is not portable as described in the previous posts. We've hung an LG 4X3 aspect ratio 40" Plasma on a Draper roll about cart. This cart has three shelves. We placed one shelf above the Plasma to house the 7000 (best angle for VTC). Another shelf just below the Plasma contains a laptop and the bottom shelf holds the sub woofer assembly. Now it's portable!! A power outlet and a LAN connection and your on line. The Draper unit is really stable and has scads of adjustments to suit the user. The built in cable managment system keeps everything neat and tidy. This "home made" system rivals a Tandberg 6000 Roll About for about the same price. Actually, it's smaller (but has only one monitor) and it looks high tech with the plasma and futuristic looking 7000. It catches peoples attention. I'll snap a photo and post.

Ah, but you don't need a second monitor with the VSX 7000's dual monitor emulation. One plasma is all you really need (who wants to see themselves full-screen anyway? ).
Great lead on the Draper cart, BTW!

Good point. Most "newbie" users are intimidated when they see their mug on screen, however, a local full size screen is preferred when transmitting a presentation from a PC, VCR, DVD or other device. When I said "but has only one monitor" I really meant that that's why it is smaller than a 6000 RollAbout. The 7000 dual monitor feature on our 4X3 Plasma was excellent for a conference of about 10 people. Sitting further from the screen would make it difficult to see during a full table view. I've found that most rehearsed users like to see exactly what they are transmitting to the distant terminal, even if it's their own head. Many presenters view the transmitting screen (as a prompt) during their presentation. The dual emulation feature would make this quite difficult to read.
I haven't researched this, but can the 7000 perform NPP (Natural Presenter Package) like the 6000 if optioned? For those not familiar, when NPP is activated, the distant audience is full screen , the local presentation is full screen and the local presenter is in a PIP. The distant end sees the presentation full screen, the presenter full screen and themselves in a PIP. Just curious.
BTW - There are very few who should be allowed to display their pumpkins full screen. It frightens the children!!
I'm away from the office for the next week, but will snap a photo of our Draper/7000 RollAbout setup and post it. We're very pleased. Cheers.

I believe the VSX7000 with dual monitor emulation turned on will display the far-end audience in the large box, the near-end presentation in a small box to the upper right of the large box and the near-end camera view in a small box to the lower right. The presentation box will most definitely not be readable, unless you've got the VGA output of the Visual Concert connected to another display.

I also belive that is the way it works naturally when you have two monitors connected to it as well...

Very clean and easy to move around. Good work.
We should have a contest with winner selected by community vote. It's too bad most of my best work is in areas in which I can't take pictures. :(

That my friend is a NICE setup  . Contrary to popular belief technology can be a beautiful thing.
Question for all, if you had a choice between a couple of hours home alone with your wife or husband and a couple of hours to play with that set up, which would you choose and why?

Technology is constantly changing.......I'll be with my wife forever. I could take a break and play with that setup for a while. :P
