this might be oversimplifying it, and coming from someone who hasn't actually seen either of them properly, but isn't this like a No Frills VSX3000?

If by 'frills' you mean a 17" LCD montior, than I guess so! :)

Here are some other differences:

>Bandwidth - 512 Kpbs IP (V500) vs 2Mbps (3000); 128 Kbps ISDN (V500) vs 512 Kbps (3000)
>Speakers - None (V500) vs Built-in (3000)
>Multi-point - None (V500) vs Optional (3000)

Quite interesting product. I look forward to the product will be released in Japan market soon as well.
