Default SX80 mic solutions for boardroom?

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm getting ready to spec out a AV/VC system to refresh the videoconferencing in our company's boardroom.

It has a large, U-shaped table, I believe between 12-16 person capacity (I've only been in the room once, and it was brief).

Users of the room (executives) are currently being grossly underserved by an older LifeSize codec and 3 table mics. We'll be installing two 85" displays, a Cisco SX80, and a Cisco SpeakerTrack 60.

The current thought is to use (8) of the Cisco table mics (to take advantage of all the mic inputs on the SX80), but I'd like to see what we can do to improve on that. Our Cisco vendor suggested their Cisco ceiling mics (of course they did!), and our AV integrator suggested a mixture of the Cisco table mics and Sennheiser ceiling mics.

This company doesn't have a lot of heavily integrated rooms, and I don't get the sense that they have the appetite for investing in an entire DSP-based system (Polycom SoundStructure, Biamp Tesira, etc.). They are also used to being able to mute the mics right from the table, rather than having to use the touch panel, but I'm not sure that's a deal-breaker by itself.

Here's the best part- what's strange is that this room already has Shure Microflex mics and a Polycom DSP unit installed (SoundStructure), but that system is for voice lift only, and I have been told that they are adamant that it not be disturbed when we refresh the VC/video equipment.

Also of note is that this is an old office building, and thus has awfully loud HVAC noise issues to consider.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

I'm open to hearing anything, and specifically I'd like to hear if anyone's had good experiences with the Cisco ceiling mics.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Zappatalist,

Sadly I don't personally have much integrator experience when it comes to conference rooms. I know that designs can vary greatly based on the nature and style of the room. It seems you are interested specifically about feedback with Cisco ceiling microphones.

If you like, I can connect you with someone who may be able to help you out. Send me a private message and I'd be happy to provide you a good email resource to probably get many, many, many details of such products if he has some time.

^Thanks! I don't appear to be able to PM other members, but that could be user error on my part.
